Covid19: OBX Hospital sets Visitation Restrictions

Updated Monday, March 16, 2020

Vidant Health values family presence when loved ones are in the hospital. At the same time, we are responsible for protecting patients from being exposed to infectious viruses.

Due to the spread of COVID-19 around the state of North Carolina, as well as the high number of people with the respiratory viruses in our community, we are temporarily expanding our visitation restrictions for patient safety as well as the safety of visitors.

To visit a Vidant Health hospital, emergency department or clinic, you must be:

  • Over the age of 16
  • An immediate family member
  • Not experiencing any symptoms of illness

Only one person at a time may visit a patient or accompany a patient to an appointment.

Vidant has also suspended all group education classes and events. If you have questions about a class or event you are registered for, please call 855-MyVidant.

This is a rapidly developing situation and Vidant officials continue to closely monitor the spread of COVID-19. For the latest information on COVID-19 to include confirmed cases in North Carolina, please visit, ncdhhs.gov/coronaviruscdc.gov/coronavirus or VidantHealth.com/covid-19.

HELP PATIENTS STAY HEALTHY

As always, family and visitors of any age should not come to the hospital if they have symptoms of a cold or flu, fever, diarrhea, vomiting or headaches.

This precaution will help limit the spread of infections while protecting hospital patients, their loved ones and Vidant Health team members. These limitations are temporary and will be lifted as soon as safely possible.

FLU VACCINE RECOMMENDATIONS

While it won’t completely prevent the flu, the annual vaccine has been shown to lessen its severity and protect the very young and the very old.

COVID-19 PREVENTION TIPS

To prevent the spread of viruses, health experts recommend:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds at a time.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are ill.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Do not reuse tissue after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces that are frequently touched.
