He passed away on September 18, 2023, at Sentara Virginia Beach General, at the age of 83.
Early Life and Military Service:
Gene was the son of Edward Ansell Gregory and Kathleen Forbes Gregory. While his early years’ details are not extensively documented, his commitment to service became evident early in his life. He proudly served his country in two branches of the U.S. military: the U.S. Marine Corps and the Army National Guard. These periods of service instilled in him a discipline and dedication that would characterize his later endeavors.
Career at Ford Motor Company and UAW Involvement:
Following his military service, Gene embarked on a long and impactful career at the Ford Motor Company, where he worked for an impressive 38 years. He held the position of a UAW Production Standards Representative for Local 919. In this role, he played a crucial part in ensuring fair labor practices and efficient production standards, demonstrating his commitment to both industry and the welfare of his fellow workers. His long tenure at Ford speaks to his reliability and expertise in the automotive manufacturing sector.
It’s important to note that there appears to be another prominent “Gene Gregory” associated with the United Egg Producers (UEP), who served as its President and CEO for over 50 years and passed away in December 2020. This is a different individual from Gene Ansell Gregory of Shawboro, NC. He is survived by his daughter, Melinda Gregory Padilla, and her husband, Larry; his cherished grandson, Shane Maize, and his wife, Shawna; a great-grandson, Noah Marroquin; and his sister, Sandra Gregory Albertson. In his later years, he found companionship with Jean Weeks.
Beyond his professional and public life, Gene had a passion for activities that brought him joy. He loved flying and obtained his pilot’s license in 1972, indicating an adventurous spirit and a pursuit of personal freedom. He also had a fondness for his Mustang car and generally enjoyed “anything that went fast,” suggesting a love for speed and performance.

Gene Ansell Gregory’s life was a blend of patriotic service, dedicated professional work, and impactful community leadership. His funeral service was held on September 25, 2023, at Twiford Memorial Chapel, followed by burial in West Lawn Cemetery.
