On Thursday, June 19, 2025, a tragic pedestrian accident in Currituck County, North Carolina, claimed the life of an 18-year-old man with special needs. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on NC Highway 168 near Commerce Road in Moyock.
The victim, identified as Shailee Bachar, 18, of Moyock, NC, was reportedly walking in the southbound lane of travel on NC 168 when he was struck by a white 2014 GMC Acadia SUV. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP), Bachar had wandered away from his home while his parents were sleeping. He was found approximately 2.5 miles from his residence, near a 7-Eleven, and was reportedly not wearing a shirt or shoes at the time of the collision.
Bachar died at the scene as a result of the impact. The driver of the SUV, whose identity has not been widely released in initial reports, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. The NCSHP has stated that no charges are expected for the SUV driver in this incident. This suggests that investigators likely determined the driver was not at fault and that the accident was unavoidable given the circumstances of the pedestrian’s presence in the roadway.
